Where There is a Will There is a Way

One issue many potential adoptive parents face is the high cost. I went to one meeting and there was a couple that seemed so defeated because they can't afford to pay for an adoption out of pocket. This experience was at the beginning of our decision making process. The look of defeat that was their face was how I was feeling.

I didn't want to stop there. I decided to do what I do best and consult Pinterest. Yes, I'm addicted to Pinterest. I also did key word searches on google. Whatever pages I found that might be relevant I added to my Pinterest adoption board (click here to view). My adoption board includes quite a few resources and advice on ways to raise funds, grants, loans and tax deductions once the adoption is finalized. The amount of information may seem overwhelming at first, but not all of the projects pertain to everyone. Eventually, an individualized list can be created of projects that will generate the most interest for those seeking adoption.

So, have hope. Keep the faith. And when you feel discouraged and need to put a smile on your face just click on the video below.

"Allow myself to introduce...myself." ~ Austin Powers

Let me begin by saying I'm a little bit of a nerd. Also, I don't consider myself much of a writer. With that said, I shall do my best to write the most interesting and brilliant blog I can with excitement and attention grabbing content. Well, as much excitement a blog on adoption written by me can offer. In all seriousness, my goal is to provide those who visit my blog with a true take on who we our, the life we lead as a couple with our furry kids and any insight I may be able to offer to other adults looking to add joy to their home through adoption.

Now for the "about me" part of this post. I'm 35 years old and a Pittsburgh native. Yes, I'm a Steeler's fan. I bleed black and gold. Though I don't follow hockey and baseball as much as I follow football I am a fan of the Pirates and the Penguins. If I watch basketball I'm usually cheering for the Pittsburgh Panthers (college) and the 76ers (pro). So, not only do I have a little bit of nerdness, I also really like sports.

John is 37 years old and a native of Lancaster, PA. It's about an hour train ride to Philly. John is a diehard Eagles fan so this makes things interesting in our house. We don't watch as much right now since John is wrapping up his first year of Med School at KCUMB in Kansas City, MO. We are a looong ways from home.

God plays an important role in our lives. We are both Orthodox Christians and try to attend Church regularly. The children we are blessed to have in our family will be raised with this as their core beliefs and system of values.

We are extremely family oriented. Not a day goes by when we're not thinking of or praying for our family and friends. We love everyone that has come into our lives. We've had families away from home for quite a while given we've spent time abroad in the Army and for school. These relationships have had such an incredible impact on our lives and we have so many wonderful memories that we will cherish forever.  Our family will be as happy as can be when we are able to welcome a new member.

John and I are also animal lovers. We have two furry kids. Harley is a 6 year old Rat Terrier that we've had since he was a puppy. Rosalia "Rosie" is a 2.5 year old Chihuahua that we adopted from KC Pet Project on John's birthday. He says she was a gift for me on his birthday. We love them both as members of our family.

I want to give a little credit to a blogger for inspiring me to FINALLY get my blog up and running. She doesn't know me but reading her blog has had such an impact on me that I have to thank her in my intro post. Thank you, Rebekah, for your inspiration. There is so much love, warmth and kindness exuding from the words you write. You will be remembered during our adoption journey and the days to follow.

Well, I want to thank that one reader for visiting! Just kidding. Whoever visits please know that we would appreciate all the love, support and prayers you can offer during this difficult and emotional process. I know there will be days of excitement for the moments we make headway and days of sadness when we feel defeated. Please visit often and follow us on our amazing adoption adventure!!!
